Thanks

We thank all our sponsors for their donations and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Building project.

After the monsoon finally ended, the road to the land for the new nunnery was completed.
The nuns went to the site for a celebration picnic!

The land is now fenced, there is electricity on the property--not the final supply, but enough for the initial phases of construction.
Also they have dug a bore well, so that there is water on site.

They have marked out a first phase of construction that will provide two housing blocks, enough for all the current nuns, though for a time some will probably have to stay three to a room.
Also there will be kitchen, dining room, three classrooms, a library space which will have to serve as temporary temple, and housing for the teachers. There is almost enough money for the first phase of the building project which will start in January and we will try to raise the remainder with construction underway.

Donations

Hurray! We have now 38 thousand guilders. Again our Thanks. We have not reached our aim yet, so please keep on sending us money for the nuns.
Progress building project

The basic land purchase for the new nunnery was completed the summer of 2001, just before the monsoon started a basic road was put in. Over the past two months, there has been steady progress on the road into the land. The total length of the road is about 900 metres. When the weather is warm enough to permit it, a topping of tar/blacktop will be applied. Also during this time 4 necessary drainage pipes under the road are being installed.
A basic electrical connection has been secured and a pump was installed to bring water onto the land from a stream below until it is possible to put in a bore well on the land.
The architects have provided their first set of proposed drawings for the buildings and they are now being reviewed.
More information follows.
Donations

Good news! We have now a total amount of 36 thousand guilders in donations. We and the nuns thank you all very much.
spring 1997

In the early spring of 1997, we went on a trip to Dharamsala to have an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Meeting His Holiness and the Tibetans was deeply touching and an eye opener in many ways. Destiny took us to the Shugsep Nunnery and the nuns immediately captured our hearts. Without thinking twice we started a fund-raising project for better living conditions and formed the Foundation "Friends of Shugsep Nunnery".
